The Battle of Cheney

Press Kit!

Welcome! First, we would like to thank you, members of the media and blogging industry, for your continued support of this event. It is only through your efforts that we are able to return to Spokane each year for this unique historical event. On this page we have supplied the following items to help anyone who is interested in spreading the word about our event:

  1. Text copy
  2. Video
  3. Stats and facts
  4. Photographs

Feel free to modify the materials and use them as you see fit. We just have one stipulation: the photographs can only be used alongside text speaking about the Battle of Cheney. If you would like to provide attribution, the text and photographs were produced by Grove Design (grovedesign.co) and the video was artfully crafted by James Temple Films (james@jamestemplefilms.com).

If you have any press-related questions, contact the event coordinator at press@spokanecivilwar.com or (509) 280-5608.

See the American Civil War for yourself at the Battle of Cheney this Memorial Day!

Feel the thunder and boom of the artillery. Strain under the weight of the rifles and packs the soldiers carried. Meet the fine ladies in their hoop-skirt dresses. Watch as battles are reenacted, walk through period-correct camps, and have fun with hands-on activities and demos for the whole family.

“We are here to help people appreciate hardships that everyday Americans endured during the Civil War, and to bring history from textbooks to life.” says Caleb Grove, a reenactor since 2009. “There is nothing better than seeing kids' eyes light up when you dress them in the gear of a soldier, or watching as adults realize just how defining this brief period of history was for our nation.”

Rhett Kearns, a reenactor portraying a Confederate Sergeant, says that people should come to the event to get an alternate education. “You can go to the library and read about the Civil War, or talk to a professor, but there is nothing that can replace smelling the smell of smoke, feeling the wool, and hearing the guns. It brings the Civil War to life.”

Camps are open to the public from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M., and formal battles are staged at 11 A.M. and 3 P.M. on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, the battle is at 10:30 A.M. immediately followed by a Memorial Day service.
